Youth Employment Development Program

Many youth and young adults, as in school, so also in employment, fail to do their best
because they do not make the connection between their current efforts in preparation toward
future opportunities. Also, when many youth and young adults finally enter the work force, many have little or no basic employable soft skills such as accepting responsibility, following instructions, work attendance, proper dress, working with others, and much more. However, their first job can provide them with an opportunity to learn important transferable skills that may not only be used in the current job, but these skills prepare them for business and life.

The “Junior Business Leaders is a Youth Employment and Business Development Program designed to help youth and young adults develop basic employment and business skills by offering training sessions to develop such skills and in collaboration with local business employment will be On the Job Training (OJT), for not only learning specific job skills, but employment transferable skills that will benefit participants beyond his/her current employment.

The program identifies youth and young adults between 16 – 25 years old who desire employment, and provides training sessions for teaching them transferable skills that can also be used in business and life. Participants will meet weekly to learn such skills. Those who obtain employment agree to continue weekly training. These will also be evaluated with the employer  to ensure they are developing the skills being taught.

Any employment agreement offered to a participant will be between employer and employee, and therefore any company’s employment procedures do not have to be modified.   Employment managers will however provide a monthly evaluation for helping the employee recognize needed areas for further development.

Since youth and businesses are not charged for such services, Faith Community Church,
a 501 (3) (C) non-profit organization seeks donations to offset program expenses. With a plan to
provide services for 15-20 participants, the program budget is about $500 per participant for the
ten week program. Please consider sponsoring a youth or provide a tax deductible financial
contribution to Faith Community Church for our Junior Business Leaders. For registration and
further information, please contact Dr. Leo Barnwell at 910-671-0339.
