In 1949, Redstone Academy closed and was replaced by a new high school, J.H. Hayswood. The new high school was namd after Dr. John H. Hayswood, a prominent Presbyterian minister, who was instrumental in the establishment and continued success of Redstone Academy. The new high school was located at the corner of Alexander and Gavintown Road. In 1970, J.H. Hayswood closed as integration became a reality throughout the South.
